Welcome- Derek Duval

I would like to welcome you to the San Diego and Imperial County Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). We are individuals in Southern California joined together using engineering, math, and science to protect people and property from fire and its effects in the built environment.

As we roll into the 2016-2017 year for our Chapter, we are building on to the success of our previous year and the work of the previous board. We strive for excellence, keeping our members involved, up to date on industry standards, and expanding our ever growing network of fire protection engineers/designers/AHJs in San Diego. In addition to keeping our members at the fore front of fire protection, we also are actively engaged with the increasing the awareness and need for fire protection engineers and fire safety in the built environment.

We hold monthly meetings as a means to exchange new and exciting information in the field of fire protection. Topics can include updates to building and fire codes, new technology, changes and trends, research projects, fire modeling, and many more. If there is a topic that you wish to learn more about this year, please email the board at [email protected]. Yearly, we hold a charity golf tournament to benefit the San Diego Burn Foundation.

So we invite designers, engineers, installers, governing officials, and any other individuals in the field of fire protection or fire safety to join our Chapter to further expand your network and knowledge.

Please explore our website, as it includes upcoming meetings, chapter officers and members, sponsorship information, golf tournaments, and job postings.

All the best,

Derek Duval, SFPE President
