September 2016 Meeting Announcement – Modeling the Impact of Ventilation in Residential Construction with FDS

Bio:

Aric Carracino is an Associate Fire Protection Engineer in the San Diego Jensen Hughes office where his experience includes smoke control system design, and design and review of fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems for private and military projects. Aric received a B.S. in Materials Engineering and an M.S. in Fire Protection Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Presentation Topic: Modeling the Impact of Ventilation in Residential Construction with FDS

Summary: Underwriters Laboratories (UL) has conducted large-scale fire experiments ion one and two story residential structures intended to represent typical single family residences. The main purpose of these experiments was to evaluate and develop fireground tactics that can be used by firefighters to fight modern residential fires more effectively and safely. As a graduate school project at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, fire models were developed using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) to recreate the one story and two story fire experiments conducted by UL. The ultimate goal is to use these models for firefighter training purposes so that firefighters can explore the effects of different ventilation tactics on expected fire conditions. The presentation will review the development of the FDS fire models including the required material properties to develop two different pyrolysis models to recreate the flame spread and fire growth recorded in the UL fire experiments.

Meeting will be held : Thursday 9/22/2016

For those who plan to attend, could you please RSVP ASAP for our menu planning purposes at Sizzlers.
