The SFPE SD Chapter is pleased to announce that the speaker for our February meeting will be Nathan Wittasek from Simpson Gumpertz and Heger Inc to present “Up in Flames: An Examination of Exterior Façade Fires in High-Rise Buildings” at our February 8th Chapter meeting.

Nathan Wittasek, PE, CFEI, LEEP AP, CASp – Principal- Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc

Topic:

The topic of the presentation will be on Up in Flames: An Examination of Exterior Façade Fires in High-Rise Buildings. This presentation provides an overview of some recent façade fires, U.S. fire testing and code requirements pertaining to combustible facades systems, as well as an overview of resources.  Make sure to   bring any relevant questions that you may have.

Bio:

Nate is a Principal and Vice President at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc.  Nate has twenty years of experience working in the fire protection and regulatory arenas.  Nate brings a practical approach to the fire protection engineering field that reflects his diverse training and experiences in academia, codes consulting for both new and existing facilities, performance-based fire protection engineering, accessibility, and the fire service.  His experience includes failure analysis, fire engineering, systems design and building codes consulting for commercial and infrastructure projects in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.  Nate has specialized in fire life safety systems and approaches that are used in assembly venues, tall buildings, cultural heritage facilities, and historic structures. Nate is a registered fire protection engineer in California and Nevada. He is a member of the Tall Building Fire Safety Network, the fire safety committee for the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, and is a regular instructor for the American Institute of Architects, where he focuses on regulatory issues, building, fire and zoning codes as well as accessibility.
